Academy Award-winner George Arliss showcases his comedic chops in a trio of gems. "Old English" (1930) has the actor playing a successful octogenarian who, despite being deep in debt, devises an unethical scheme to provide for his family. Doris Lloyd, Betty Lawford co-star. Tycoon Arliss fakes bankruptcy to test his family's heart and show them that money isn't everything in "A Successful Calamity" (1932), with Mary Astor and Evalyn Knapp. Finally, "The King's Vacation" (1933) stars Arliss as a put-upon monarch who finds that the simple life isn't so simple when he's forced to abdicate his throne and return to the estranged family he hasn't seen in many years. Then-wife Florence Arliss, Dick Powell also star. 3 2/3 hrs. total on three discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
