With Martha Vickers, John Ridgely, Elisha Cook, Jr., Dorothy Malone. 1946 theatrical version; 114 min./1945 pre-release version; 116 min. BW/Rtg:

Escaping from San Quentin after being framed for his wife's murder, Vincent Parry (Humphrey Bogart) hides out in the San Francisco apartment of a sympathetic artist (Lauren Bacall) and undergoes plastic surgery in an attempt to find the real killer. Offbeat mystery, fueled by the Bogey/Bacall magic, also stars Agnes Moorehead, Tom D'Andrea; based on the novel by David Goodis. 106 min. BW/Rtg: NR

John Huston's take on the Maxwell Anderson play co-stars Thomas Gomez, Dan Seymour, and Best Supporting Actress Oscar-winner Claire Trevor. 101 min. BW/Rtg: NR
