For Me And My Gal (1942)
Delightful romp set in pre-WWI vaudeville, with naive young singer Jo Hayden (Judy Garland) being wooed away from her stage partners by debonair hoofer Harry Palmer (Gene Kelly, in his film debut). The pair struggles to make it big, and find their romance interrupted by Harry’s enlistment in an entertainment troupe overseas. George Murphy, Ben Blue, and Keenan Wynn co-star under Busby Berkeley's direction. Songs include "Oh, You Beautiful Doll," "After You've Gone," and the title song. 104 min. BW/Rtg: NR
The Harvey Girls (1946)
When America headed west, so did Fred Harvey's restaurant chain...as well as a lot of demure young waitresses who didn't know how wild the frontier was! Spunky server Susan Bradley (Judy Garland) gets the better of antagonistic Arizona barkeep Ned Trent (John Hodiak) in commerce and romance in this delightful musical; Angela Lansbury, Ray Bolger, Virginia O’Brien, Cyd Charisse also star. Score features "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe," "It’s a Great Big World." 101 min. C/Rtg: NR
In The Good Old Summertime (1949)
In early-20th-century Chicago, music store salesman Andrew Larkin (Van Johnson) got off on the wrong foot with new hire Veronica Fisher (Judy Garland)...and proceeded to remain there. The frosty co-workers, however, also have no idea that they’re one another’s anonymous lonely-hearts pen pal. Charming musical version of "The Shop Around the Corner" co-stars S.Z. Sakall, Spring Byington, and Buster Keaton; look for a young Liza Minnelli with her mother in the finale. Songs include "Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland," "I Don’t Care." 103 min. C/Rtg: NR
Summer Stock (1950)
"Get Happy" with this classic M-G-M musical starring Judy Garland as Jane Falbury, a farm owner who allows her aspiring actress sister's theatrical troupe to stage a musical in her barn in exchange for their helping hands. But when sis takes off for Broadway, Jane steps in and learns about showbiz from leading man Joe D. Ross (Gene Kelly). Songs include "You, Wonderful You" (featuring Kelly's legendary "newspaper dance") and "Heavenly Music." With Eddie Bracken, Phil Silvers. 109 min. C/Rtg: NR
Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, Spanish, French; bonus shorts "Did'ja Know?" (1950), "The Cuckoo Clock" (1950); more.
