The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection, Vol. 2
Saboteur (1942)
Robert Cummings is wartime factory worker Barry Kane who sees a Nazi spy bomb his plant, but finds himself wrongly accused of the sabotage. To prove his innocence and bring the guilty man to justice, Kane embarks on a daring cross-country manhunt that leads him from Colorado to New York City, culminating in the classic sequence atop the Statue of Liberty. Priscilla Lane, Norman Lloyd, Otto Kruger also star. 109 min. BW/Rtg: PG
Shadow Of A Doubt (1943)
A young woman, overjoyed when her favorite uncle comes to visit the family, slowly begins to suspect that he is in fact the "Merry Widow" killer sought by the authorities. Classic film noir, Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite of all his films, made all the more chilling by the small town ambience supplied by co-scripter Thornton Wilder, stars Joseph Cotten, Teresa Wright, Macdonald Carey, and Hume Cronyn. 108 min. BW/Rtg: NR
The Trouble With Harry (1955)
Harry’s trouble is that he’s dead, his corpse can’t stay in one place, and four people are taking credit for his demise. Director Alfred Hitchcock deftly blends suspense and humor in this dark comedy starring John Forsythe, Shirley MacLaine (her film debut), Edmund Gwenn, Mildred Natwick, and Jerry Mathers as the boy who discovers Harry’s body. 99 min. C/Rtg: PG
Marnie (1964)
A critical and financial misfire when first released, Hitchcock’s psychodrama about a gorgeous young kleptomaniac (Tippi Hedren) and her employer (Sean Connery), who falls for her and tries to discover the reasons behind her compulsions, is now recognized as a subtle thriller of sexual symbolism. Co-stars Diane Baker and Bruce Dern. 131 min. C/Rtg: PG
Family Plot (1976)
Alfred Hitchcock’s final film is a light-hearted thriller involving two couples--phony psychic Blanche Tyler (Barbara Harris) and cab driver beau George Lumley (Bruce Dern), and kidnappers Arthur Adamson (William Devane) and Fran (Karen Black)--who cross paths when their respective searches for a missing heir and a fortune in jewels intersect. With Cathleen Nesbitt, Ed Lauter; based on the novel "The Rainbird Pattern" by Victor Canning. 121 min. C/Rtg: PG
