The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection
Rope (1948)
Hitchcock’s "filmed play experiment," shot in continuous 10-minute takes, follows two prep school friends who murder an ex-classmate for the "intellectual thrill" of it, then hide the body in their Manhattan apartment while hosting a dinner party. John Dall and Farley Granger are the killers, and James Stewart is their former teacher, who uncovers the crime. 81 min. C/Rtg: PG
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
Alfred Hitchcock remade his own 1934 thriller of the same name into this exhilarating suspense classic. An American couple (James Stewart and Doris Day) vacationing in Morocco finds themselves mixed up in a complex and dangerous web of intrigue that involves kidnapping, blackmail, murder, a French intelligence agent, and a political assassination attempt. Brenda De Banzie, Bernard Miles co-star; features the Oscar-winning song "Que Sera, Sera" performed by Day. 120 min. C/Rtg: PG
Torn Curtain (1966)
Alfred Hitchcock’s espionage yarn stars Paul Newman as Michael Armstrong, an American physicist who plans to defect to East Germany and hand over important secrets to the communists. But Armstrong’s scheme turns out to be more complicated when it’s discovered he has a different plan that will place him, along with his secretary and fiancée (Julie Andrews), in danger. With Lila Kedrova, Ludwig Donath. 128 min. C/Rtg: NR
Topaz (1969)
Based on the Leon Uris novel, this Alfred Hitchcock tale of Cold War intrigue stars John Forsythe as a CIA agent who teams with French spy Frederick Stafford to uncover Soviet activities in Cuba shortly before the 1962 missile crisis and finds a double agent is working against them. Karin Dor, Roscoe Lee Browne, John Vernon also star. 143 min. C/Rtg: PG
Frenzy (1972)
As a serial rapist/strangler dubbed "the Necktie Killer" roams the streets of London, Dick Blaney (Jon Finch), an innocent man whose ex-wife was one of the victims, is accused of the crime and arrested. After escaping from prison, Blaney becomes determined to get revenge--unaware that the madman he seeks is a friend of his. Based on a novel by Arthur La Bern, Alfred Hitchcock’s darkly funny and sexually charged shocker co-stars Barry Foster, Alec McCowen, and Billie Whitelaw. 116 min. C/Rtg: R
