This downbeat "noir" thriller raised a few eyebrows due to its violence and controversial themes. Cornel Wilde plays Lt. Leonard Diamond, a dedicated cop─out to bring down crime boss Mr. Brown (Richard Conte)─who gets involved with an icy blonde (Jean Wallace), who happens to be Brown's mistress.
