Lee Marvin is a grizzled WWII army sergeant leading the men of the First Infantry Division (aka the Big Red One) from one battlefield to the next across Africa and Europe. Writer/director Samuel Fuller's gritty, autobiographical military saga was originally slated to be made in the '50s with John Wayne.
