The Bob Hope and Bing Crosby Road to Comedy Collection
Carnival con men Fearless (Bob Hope) and Chuck (Bing Crosby) find themselves outswindled on a safari scheme by beautiful Donna Latour (Dorothy Lamour) and left to stew in some cannibals' pots, in "Road to Zanzibar" (1941). Una Merkel, Eric Blore, Lionel Royce co-star. Two shipwreck survivors (Hope and Crosby) wind up on the Mediterranean coast and take a camel ride into a comedic Arabian Nights-style adventure, as the pair fight a desert warrior (Anthony Quinn) for the hand of a princess (Lamour), in "Road to Morocco" (1942). Among the songs featured is the Crosby standard "Moonlight Becomes You." And, Hope and Crosby play song-and-dance men searching for a lost mine in the Alaskan wilderness, in "Road to Utopia" (1945). Perennial co-star Lamour joins the boys, along with Douglass Dumbrille and narrator Robert Benchley; look for a cameo by Jim Thorpe. Two-disc set also includes "Road to Singapore." 5 1/3 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English; sing-along songs; more.
