In ’40s New England, young Homer Wells (Tobey Maguire) leaves the only home he’s known, a Maine orphanage run by physician mentor Wilbur Larch (Best Supporting Actor Oscar-winning Michael Caine). Taking a job on the apple farm of a friend who’s gone off to war, Homer is drawn to the man’s girlfriend (Charlize Theron) and befriends father/daughter migrant workers (Delroy Lindo and Erykah Badu) with a dark secret. Lasse Hallström directs John Irving’s acclaimed adaptation of his novel. 125 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1.
