In the capital city of Utopia, the newly elected (and anti-Semitic) political majority passes a law forcing the emigration of the nation’s Jewish populace. In its aftermath--as the country faces economic and cultural decline--a Jewish artist (Johannes Riemann) and his gentile wife (Anny Milety) covertly return from exile with a plan for the edict’s overturn. Rescued Austrian adaptation of the Hugo Bettauer satirical novel also stars Hans Moser, Eugen Neufeld, Hans Effenberger. 90 min. Standard; Soundtrack: music score; bonus documentary "Victims of Hatred" (1923); featurettes. Silent with music score. Two-disc set.
