From the miscasting of John Wayne in the title role, "The Conqueror"--Howard Hughes' 1956 costume adventure biopic of Genghis Khan--was a production top-down rife with questionable choices. Ultimately, the saddest choice would prove to be the Utah location shoots downwind of government nuclear weapons tests in Nevada--due to the elevated rates of cancer amongst cast and crew that followed. Both aspects of the film's legacy are explored through interviews with experts and surviving family. 114 min.
