In this lavish version of the Alexandre Dumas novel, Jim Caviezel plays Edmond Dantès, who is duped by his jealous aristocratic friend Fernand Mondego (Guy Pearce) and secretly sent to prison. While in jail, Dantes is befriended by Catholic priest Abbé Faria (Richard Harris), who helps him escape and leads him to a treasure that will help him stage revenge over his former ally.
