The Delirious Fictions of William Klein (Criterion Collection: Eclipse Series 9)
An American expatriate living in Paris, acclaimed New York-born photographer William Klein would find further success as a filmmaker in the French cinema. A trio of his most daring works is featured in this three-disc set. A scathing look at the fashion industry, "Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? " (1966) follows an up-and-coming runway model as she's shadowed by a TV news crew documenting her every move while being courted by a determined prince. Dorothy McGowan, Jean Rochefort, Sami Frey star. Klein points a critical lens at U.S. foreign policy with "Mr. Freedom" (1969), a politically charged satire about a flag-waving American superhero who takes it upon himself to stop a Swiss invasion of France. With John Abbey, Delphine Seyrig, Donald Pleasence. And, Claudine and Jean-Michel are "The Model Couple" (1977), placed in an ultra-modern apartment and monitored for six months as a societal experiment that examines personal freedom in the face of technology and consumerism. André Dussollier, Anémone star. 4 3/4 hrs. total. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English. In French with English subtitles.
