Ollie (Oliver Hardy) is in Paris when he meets and falls in love with Georgette, (Jean Parker). He proposes to Georgette and is turned down. Ollie does not know she is already married to Foreign Legion officer, Francois (Reginald Gardiner). Olllie is heartbroken and about to commit suicide. Francois convinces the duo to enlist in the Foreign Legion. Enticed by Francois's offer, plus the fact that Ollie will completely forget his failed romance, they enlist. From the start they wreak havoc in training camp. The commandant (Charles B. Middleton), sentences them to hard labor. Ollie manages to forget his broken heart and they prepare to leave. Before leaving, Ollie intends to tell the commandant off. Ollie writes him a very insulting farewell letter and signs it. The commandant tells Stan and Ollie he received their farewell note, and it is now their death warrant. He arrests them for desertion. They are taken to prison, locked up and sentenced to be shot at dawn. Lots more hilarious action is to come. At the film's ending, Ollie makes his famous remark, "Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into". Classic Laurel and Hardy! (65 minutes - 1939 - Black & White - 4:3)
