Elephant Walk (1954)
At first thrilled with the prospect of living at the ancestral Ceylon tea plantation of new husband John (Peter Finch), Englishwoman Ruth Wiley (Elizabeth Taylor) is soon chafing from the elements, the isolation, and her groom’s indifference. Complicating matters further is the presence of handsome overseer Dick Carver (Dana Andrews), and their mutual attraction sets the stage for tragedy. Exotic, exciting drama co-stars Abraham Sofaer, Abner Biberman. 102 min. C/Rtg: NR
The Court Jester (1955)
When medieval England was ruled by a usurper king, timid minstrel Hubert Hawkins (Danny Kaye) found himself conscripted by a rebel band protecting the throne’s true infant heir--and thrust into comically dangerous intrigues when he was sent to infiltrate the palace in the guise of the crown’s newly hired fool. Colorful Kaye costume vehicle marked by the "vessel with the pestle-chalice from the palace" and other classic bits co-stars Glynis Johns, Angela Lansbury, Basil Rathbone. 101 min. C/Rtg: NR
The Rose Tattoo (1955)
In rural Louisiana, a Sicilian émigré (Oscar-winning Anna Magnani) withdraws from the world after losing her adored husband, and pulls their young daughter (Marisa Pavan) into her isolation. It might take the tempting presence of a virile trucker (Burt Lancaster), and harsh truths about her late spouse, to allow her to move on. Memorable rendering of the Tennessee Williams play co-stars Ben Cooper, Jo Van Fleet, Virginia Grey. 116 min. BW/Rtg: NR
Teacher's Pet (1958)
An old-school newspaper editor (Clark Gable), who learned his trade on the fly, haughtily shoots down an invitation to lecture college journalism students. When he surreptitiously learns that the professor he snubbed is an attractive woman (Doris Day), he enrolls in her class to get to know her--and maybe his craft--a little better. Spry romantic farce scripted by Fay and Michael Kanin co-stars Gig Young, Mamie Van Doren, Nick Adams, Marion Ross. 120 min. BW/Rtg: NR
