Originating as a 1947 radio series, and then a 1949 novel by Fulton Oursler, George Stevens’ magnificent account of the Gospel story, from the Nativity through the Resurrection, is filled with majestic settings, reverent storytelling, and an all-star cast. Max Von Sydow, in his first English-speaking role, portrays Jesus; Jose Ferrer, Charlton Heston, David McCallum, Dorothy McGuire, Sidney Poitier, Telly Savalas, John Wayne, and Claude Rains (in his final film) also appear. 199 min.
