This hysterical musical/comedy, based on the Gogol play, stars Danny Kaye as Georgi, a medicine show flunky who's exiled from his family of gypsies. He escapes to an small European village, but is soon mistaken for a government agent traveling in disguise to investigate the town's corrupt officials. As the bumbling bad guys try to knock him off, he may just win over the townsfolk. Elsa Lanchester, Walter Slezak, and Gene Lockhart co-star. 102 min.
