F.W. Murnau’s classic, innovative German silent film tells the moving story an elderly hotel doorman (Emil Jannings) who takes great pride in his work, only to suffer a tremendous personal shame when he’s demoted to washroom attendant because of his age. With only the night watchman (Georg John) showing him any respect, the protagonist hides his new position from friends and family, but receives an unexpected surprise that will change his fortune. Co-stars Maly Delschaft, Max Hiller. Two-disc set includes the restored version of the film with a new recording of the 1924 orchestral score, as well as an unrestored "export" version. 90 min.
