In "The Mayor of 44th Street," former hoofer George Murphy opens a talent agency in the inner city, and offers staff jobs to local kids. Will his good works go for naught when local hoods want to use the business as a front? Anne Shirley, William Gargan, and (in his screen farewell) Richard Barthelmess co-star; score includes the Oscar-nominated "There's a Breeze on Lake Louise." And, the RKO musical "Radio Stars on Parade" stars Wally Brown and Alan Carney as wanna-be agents out to build a broadcast career for nightclub thrush Frances Langford. Her ex-boss, mobbed-up Sheldon Leonard, isn't real keen on the idea, though! Ralph Edwards, Don Wilson, Skinnay Ennis also star; score includes "That Old Black Magic," "My Shining Hour." 154 min. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
