Car Wash (1977)
Funny and funky farce follows the lives of the eccentric employees and customers gliding through a California car wash on one sunny day. Among the offbeat characters are a money-minded preacher (Richard Pryor), a cab driver (George Carlin) looking for a fare who stiffed him, a man (Professor Irwin Corey) who may be a mad bomber, and more. With Franklyn Ajaye, Antonio Fargas, Bill Duke, Garrett Morris, and The Pointer Sisters; written by Joel Schumacher. 97 min. C/Rtg: PG
Which Way Is Up? (1977)
Richard Pryor offers his take on the Italian comedy "The Seduction of Mimi," and the results are hilarious. He plays a fruit picker, a sex-starved 88-year-old man, and a freewheeling preacher who’s raising Cain behind his pulpit. Co-stars Lonette McKee, Margaret Avery, Dolph Sweet. 95 min. C/Rtg: R
Bustin’ Loose (1981)
Following a parole violation, shifty ex-con Joe Braxton (Richard Pryor) is "volunteered" to drive eight special needs children from Philadelphia to Washington state. During the cross-country trip, Joe becomes unexpectedly dedicated to helping the kids, also falling for their pretty teacher (Cicely Tyson) along the way. Raucous and warm-hearted comedy also stars Robert Christian, George Coe, Jimmy Hughes, Angel Ramirez, Jr., Edwin DeLeon. 93 min. C/Rtg: R
Brewster's Millions (1985)
Think it’s easy being a millionaire? Wait ’til you see minor league ball player Montgomery Brewster (Richard Pryor) try to spend $30 million in 30 days. If he can do it, he’ll inherit $300 million from a recently deceased relative. Brewster soon discovers, however, that it’s much easier to make money than it is to lose it. Hilarious version of the Hollywood comedy classic also stars John Candy and Lonette McKee. 102 min. C/Rtg: PG
