The Spider Woman / Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror
Have Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Watson (Nigel Bruce) finally met their match in the sultry, sinister presence of Adrea Spedding (Gale Sondergaard), responsible for London’s rash of "pyjama suicides"? One of the finest of Universal's Holmes films, "The Spider Woman" finds the sleuth facing death by drowning, smoke, arachnids, shooting gallery, and pygmy; Dennis Hoey, Angelo Rossitto co-star. Next, in his first "modern" adventure, the great detective must find the secret Nazi conspirator who's responsible for a reign of espionage and destruction throughout England. Rathbone, Bruce, Reginald Denny, and Evelyn Ankers star in "Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror," based on Conan Doyle's "His Last Bow." 129 min. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English.
