A Quiet Place (2018)
With the planet decimated by voracious alien attackers that can target their prey via the slightest sound, Evelyn and Lee Abbott (Emily Blunt, John Krasinski) managed to carve out a backwoods survival for themselves, son Marcus (Noah Jupe), and hearing-impaired daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds). How long, though, will they be able to maintain a life of forced silence before they give away their presence? Director Krasinski’s effective, near-dialogue free hit shocker co-stars Cade Woodward. 90 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
Overlord (2018)
On the eve of D-Day, a handful of American paratroopers who survived their unit’s ill-fated drop over France pushed ahead with their assignment to take out a Nazi radio tower. The mission, however, would deliver more than just the anticipated terrors--as they stumbled upon a German science project tasked with resurrecting their fallen soldiers as unstoppable zombies. Unapologetic genre mash-up stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Mathilde Ollivier, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker. 110 min. C/Rtg: R
Pet Sematary (2019)
Boston doctor Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) had been having the standard difficulties moving practice, wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz), and kids to rural Maine. However, when the beloved cat of daughter Ellie (Jeté Laurence) is killed in traffic, eccentric new neighbor Jud (John Lithgow) tips him to the uncanny restorative properties of a local Indian burial ground...and starts a string of unholy consequences. Disquieting do-over of the Stephen King shocker co-stars Obssa Ahmed, Maria Herrera. 101 min. C/Rtg: R
Crawl (2019)
As Florida authorities were evacuating a small town ahead of a Category 5 hurricane, Haley Keller (Kaya Scodelario) was fighting to get in--trying to locate her unaccounted-for dad Dave (Barry Pepper). Making her way to his house, she finds him injured within an attic crawlspace...and, now, their survival is in question, both from the rising floodwaters and the hungry alligators trolling within. Alexandre Aja’s terrifying two-hander co-stars Ross Anderson, Anson Boon. 87 min. C/Rtg: R
