Tokyo Drifter (Criterion Collection)
(1966)
From iconoclastic filmmaker Seijun Suzuki, whose stylized crime films put him at odds with critics and his studio, comes a lightning-fast gangster drama that blends elements of American film noir and Italian spaghetti westerns. Tetsuya Watari is Tetsu, a top Yakuza member who's double-crossed by his Tokyo boss and who wanders Japan, always watching his back (and always ready to break into song!), until the inevitable showdown. 82 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: Japanese Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English; interviews; theatrical trailer; booklet. In Japanese with English subtitles.
