Topsy-Turvy (Criterion Collection)
(1999)
Filmmaker Mike Leigh's ("Secrets & Lies") seriocomic spin on the stormy collaboration of operatic masters William S. Gilbert (Jim Broadbent) and Arthur Sullivan (Allan Corduner) is set in 1884, when the failure of "Princess Ida" casts doubts on the duo's future. A chance visit by Gilbert to a Japanese exhibition gives him the idea that will lead to their greatest success─"The Mikado." Ron Cook, Lesley Manville, Timothy Spall also star. 160 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English DTS HD Surround Master Audio; Subtitles: English (SDH); audio commentary; deleted scenes; featurettes; bonus short "A Sense of History" (1992); theatrical trailer; TV spots; booklet.
