This five-disc set includes all nine Warners films starring Glenda Farell (plus Lola Lane and later Jane Wyman) as sassy reporter/sleuth Torchy Blane. "Smart Blonde" (1937) has Torchy solving a murder committed right in front of her. Blane gets involved in a smuggling case on a flight in "Fly Away Baby" (1937), then is immersed in a scandal with a rival newspaper in "The Adventurous Blonde" (1937). Torchy upsets everyone, including her detective fiancé (Barton MacLane), by getting the scoop on a big case, in "Blondes at Work" (1938), and "Torchy Gets Her Man" (1938) after cracking a counterfeit money scam. Lane assumes the title role for "Torchy Blane in Panama" (1938) and follows a fencing outfit to Central America, then Farrell returns to face blackmail, murder and an Asian gang in "Torchy Blane in Chinatown" (1939). "Torchy Runs for Mayor" (1939) and brings down a corrupt politician in the process. Finally, Wyman takes over in the series's swan song, "Torchy Blane...Playing with Dynamite" (1939), and follows a gangster's moll to catch him. 9 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
