Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurahara (Criterion Collection - Eclipse Series 28)
Experience some radically entertaining films from Japanese New Wave filmmaker Koreyoshi Kurahara with this five-disc set. First, Kurahara's crisp film noir "Intimidation" (1960) briskly chronicles the dark relationship between a crooked bank manager and a subordinate carrying a grudge. Nobuo Kaneko, Mari Shiraki star. Next, "The Warped Ones" (1960) offers a jazzy account of an angry teen's rampage after he is released from prison. Tamio Kawachi, Eiji Go star. AKA: "The Weird Love Makers." The road movie "I Hate but Love" (1962) delivers a comic look at a disaffected celebrity's journey. With Yujiro Ishihara, Ruriko Asaoka. A Japanese vagrant and an African-American solider romp through Tokyo in the subversive "buddy" film "Black Sun" (1964). Tamio Kawaji, Chico Roland star. Finally, a young widow turns to other members of her late husband's family to satisfy her "Thirst for Love" (1967). Asaoka, Nobuo Nakamura star. 7 1/3 hrs. total. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: Japanese PCM mono; Subtitles: English. In Japanese with English subtitles.
