Disrespected, alcoholic small-town doctor Michel Ancelin (Michel Simon) was driving drunk when he fatally struck a motorcyclist...and then successfully altered the crime scene to make the victim appear at fault. Chastened by the incident--at first--the physician's resolve to be a better person gave way to the belief that if he got away with it once, he could do so again.
